Workshops

Are you new to the Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP)? You have come to the right place, AVP-Kingston.

Developed by men from Greenhaven Penitentiary (Upstate New York, USA) and the Quaker Society in 1975 it became a cutting-edge way to deal with violence inside the walls of a prison, then filtered outside the walls.

Qualified Facilitators are men and women from all walks of life who volunteer to guide other youth, men, and women through the AVP process to gain an understanding of violence in their lives and the aspect of Creative Conflict Resolution from an individual standpoint.

There are many ways to learn AVP. Every certificate workshop requires a minimum of 18 hours:

  1. Mini Workshop – A 2–4 hour introductory session to the AVP process.

  2. Basic Level Workshop – Covers the foundations of AVP; includes a completion certificate.

  3. Second Level Workshop – Builds on the Basic Level with deeper skill development; includes a certificate.

  4. T4F (Training for Facilitators) – After completing the first two levels, participants can become Apprentice Facilitators and progress toward becoming Qualified Facilitators in Canada.
